DIY: Dazzle It Yourself.

Ding. Ding. Ding… SNOOZE. Ding. Ding. Ding… SNOOZE. No matter how many times you press the snooze button, your monotonous alarm continues to go off. Ugh. Time to get up. Exhausted from last night’s events, you roll out of your heavenly bed. Hair messy, makeup down your face. Although you feel like a mess, you immediately resort to your closet because as everyone knows, finding the perfect outfit is always the best morning pick me up.

In your closet: last year’s jeans and a stained tee shirt. So uh, this isn’t exactly what you had envisioned. Remember when I chose to nap yesterday instead of going shopping?  Rummaging through your subpar wardrobe choices, you recall the Etsy patches you ordered a few years back. Hmmm…..I have an idea.

Feeling like the next Rachel Zoe, you pull out four classic items from your closet: a denim jacket, faded jeans, plaid shirt, and plain white sneakers. The opportunities are endless. You’re an artist and last year’s frocks are this year’s canvas. DIY: Dazzle It Yourself.

All Patched Up.

A denim jacket is a timeless staple in every closet. And while denim is a fashion holy grail, it still needs some revamping from time and time, which is where Etsy comes in. Patches add a pop of color and edge to a classic piece, not to mention that they also allow you to customize your jacket as. If you’re feeling adventurous, attach a colorful fur trim to an otherwise boring collar. All you need is a hot glue gun and a little bit of imagination and suddenly, your beat-up jacket from 2015 suddenly looks like the hottest trend on the runway.

Flannel Fever.

You’ve had the same red flannel shirt for the past two seasons. Booooring. Grab a pair of scissors and cut the shirt into multiple plaid squares. Next, find an old pair of tattered boyfriend jeans with rips. If you’re skilled at sewing, carefully stitch the plaid squares into the rips of the jeans. You can do this with any fabric, but flannel gives a bold and edgy flare. Plaid jeans are not new to the fashion world, but they sell for hundreds of dollars on the market. Save a ton of money and have fun while doing it!

Blank Canvas.

You have a million pairs of plain white stan smiths. Practical maybe, but sooo last year. It’s time to spice up a classic- and extremely overdone-shoe. First thought: spray paint. Craft stores sell every color of the rainbow, but rose gold metallic is so on trend. With the simple push of a button, you have the hottest shoes of the year. You no longer look like every other girl walking down the street, but rather a trend-setter. A statement maker.

Revamping your look is not costly–it simply requires some effort, imagination, and of course, style. Take your worn-out pieces and make them into something completely unique. Everybody will be dying to know where you shop. Let them in on the secret! Money doesn’t make fashion, creativity does. And besides, your new wardrobe will force you to get out of bed in the morning. Let’s get innovative.
