What to wear to the MFMS

by Amy Rosner

We’ve told you our story. We’ve told you the speaker lineup. We’ve told you the time and place. Now–it’s time to tell you what to wear.

When attending a fashion event, it’s important to look the part. Boyfriend jeans and a band tee, though never out of trend, simply won’t do the trick. The attire for our event is Corporate Chic: we’re talking sophistication, professionalism, and, of course, style. All colors are welcomed, but you can bet that the squad will be repping black and white. To help you out, we’ve created a mood board of our favorite pieces to catalyze your fashion senses. While these suggestions are encouraged and not entirely mandatory, remember that you’re going to be surrounded by the industry’s elite–so dress to impress.

Disclaimer: This is not an event that requires purchasing new items. Chances are, you can find something fashionable, and appropriate, in your closet.

For The Ladies

Dress Pants

Since jeans are a no-go, we suggest rocking a cool pair of dress pants. Nothing says “I mean business” like a contrasting tuxedo stripe down the leg.

Flowy Skirt

Any color or design is welcome, but please make sure it is length appropriate! If you’re looking to stay on trend, leather skirts are really hot this year.

Nice Blouse

Spring is upon us, so feel free to experiment with color!

Chic Dress/Jumpsuit

We take things seriously, but that’s no reason not to be playful with an appropriate jumpsuit. Throw on a studded belt or a funky pair of platforms, and you’re good to go.

Dress Shoes

Totally fine to wear high heels, but just remember this is a long event with a lot of standing up. Make sure to be comfortable!

For The Gentlemen

Dress Pants

We recommend wearing a pair of dress pants or khakis. No need to get too fancy, but remember to stay professional.

Button-Down Shirt or Sweater

The easiest way to look professional is with a button-down shirt or sweater. Or a button down under a sweater. All the power to ya.

Jacket

If you want to look sleeker, throw on a sports/suit jacket. Again, our suggestions are encouraged and not mandatory, but remember, no one can resist a man in a suit.

Dress Shoes

All shoes are welcome, except for sneakers! A chic loafer or dress shoe never fails.

So there you have it: “Corporate Chic.” If you’re still having any hesitations about what to rep to the #MFMS2018, feel free to reach out to any MFMS team member; we would be more than happy to assist you in looking your very best at the fashion event of the year in Ann Arbor. But, if you use our guide as inspiration, we’re confident heads will turn as you enter the Ross School of Business on April 13th. Please arrive fashionably early!
