The Loop Issue Twenty-Seven

Letter from the Editor

As we dive back into the fast-paced rhythm of campus life, the fashion world is still catching its breath. This summer season didn’t just turn heads, it threw the entire industry for a loop.

Coastal boho redefined beachside elegance, archival Italian fashion dominated summer wardrobes, and even the most minimalist dressers found themselves tempted by bold prints and bag charms. Between viral micro-trends to a stylistic pendulum from quiet luxury to unapologetic maximalism, summer 2025 refused to play it safe or slow down.

That’s where The Loop comes in. In case you missed it, The Loop is here to keep you in the know–especialy for those who had some much needed unplugging over the summer. This issue is your one-stop catch-up guide to everything fashion insiders were obsessing over while you were OOO (out of office).

The trend cycle didn’t slow down, but luckily, we looped it all back for you.

With Love,

Sabrina Kizer

IN THE NEWS:

Sydney Sweeney x American Eagle Campaign that rocked the internet

American Eagle’s summer campaign starring Sydney Sweeney sent shockwaves across the internet. Playing on the word “jeans,” the ad stated that Sydney Sweeney “has great jeans,” referring to her denim-clad look while nodding to the actress's notoriously “perfect” appearance. The campaign was met with immense scrutiny and for its racist undertones, with some viewers attributing its messaging to that of 1900s eugenics. American Eagle has since defended its campaign, claiming it “is and always was about the jeans.”

Gap is Officially Back: From the Perfect Baggy Jeans to their Katseye Campaign

Championed by Zac Posen, Gap has made headlines from its recent collaborations with Cult Gaia and Döen, and now they’ve done it again. Gap dropped a campaign for their Fall 2025 denim wear, starring none other than the most popular girl groups: Katseye, performing to“Milkshake” by Kelis, clad in Gap denim. Between the group’s diverse background and the Gap’s statement that the ad highlights “cultural diversity” and “individuality,” spectators online are drawing comparisons with the controversial American Eagle ad. Online posts question whether Gap’s ad is a “response” to the infamous campaign, or if it was a long-planned partnership.

Quiet Luxury Has Left The Building

It’s time for quiet luxury to step aside, as it’s cooler, older sister has taken the reins. The “coastal boho” aesthetic is a romantic, beach-inspireed update to the laid-back ethos of quiet luxury: think lots of lace, crochet, and raffia accessories alongside breezy dresses and oversized sunglasses Fashion houses such as Chloé, Zimmerman, and Ralph Lauren, have infused their summer collections with this aesthetic. Archival Italian designers like Roberto Cavalli and Missoni soared in popularity, as the eccentric patterns and colors fit perfectly within the bohemian revival. This renewal elevates boho through luxury materials and craftsmanship, giving it a polished makeover.

TREND WATCH:

The Summer I Turned Trendy?

Summer 2025 generated a plethora of new trends, but none gained a cult following quite as large as the fuzzy, little monsters known as Labubus. Bag charms have soared in popularity this year, hanging from the designer bags of celebrities like Rihanna or the belt buckles of reality TV stars like Nic from Love Island. Secondly, butter yellow not-so-quietly emerged as the color of the season, bringing a soft and sunny glow to everything from breezy linens to elevated basics. Its ability to bridge the gap between minimalist neutrals and playful color has made it a favorite for fashion gurus and detached shoppers alike.

If you missed us at Festifall or the mass meeting, meet the team at our rooftop networking event this Friday from 7-8:30pm! Applications close the following Sunday, 9/7 at 11:59pm. You can only apply to one team, so assess your strengths and interests carefully.

STYLE SPOTLIGHT:

Looking ahead towards fall, Larroude’s slip-on sneaker is forecasted to be the season’s it-girl shoe. By blending street style with a sort of slipper-like edge, the shoe gives off that put-together vibe, without having to tie a single shoelace. We’re considering this the ballet flat’s alternative cousin, and foresee it snowballing in popularity as temperature drops and the leaves fall.
